Harley's Easy Eagle
Here’s a very well-engineered, new 2M woodie for sport & fun-flying, designed for scratch building. It’s a rugged, innovative, much-refined version of the EASY EAGLE designed for & kitted by the original ACE RC. It’s perfect for hi-start, winchable with rapid pedal tapping & sloping in modest winds.
HISTORY: Flying the prototype built for ACE with a friend flying a Gentle Lady, he observed, “Harley, you’re flying rings round me!” It was literally true. Maneuvering & response to control input were particularly good. With its robust wing & flaps, altitude off the hi-start was greater as was the climb out in thermals. Vertical descents were safe, controlled & slow landings routine. Performance, all around, far exceeded expectations.
Most regrettably, Ace’s well-intentioned modifications & material choices for kitting added much weight. Guys reported EE’s weighing up to a pound more than mine. Die cutting was crude. Instructions for flap mechanics installation had a major error limiting deflection. When new management favoring ARF’s took over, kits were discontinued. Modelers never had a chance to experience the EE built like the prototype.
Current interest in woodies inspired refining the design with things since learned & keeping it light, nimble & just plain fun to fly. With modeler Duane Beck’s superb plans, detailed, step-by-step main assembly instructions, other supporting documents, construction pix & laser cut wing ribs, etc. this advanced EE is a realistic scratch-buildingproject for builders with limited experience, too. Building it “sticking to the script” provides a hands-on educational experience that teaches many skills useful for a life of modeling.
